China's Steel Production Grows by 7.8 Percent

The first 10 months of this year witnessed a steady growth of China's steel production with the output growing a year-on-year 7.8 percent to reach 101.47 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The output of steel products between January and October hit 97.74 million tons, surging 14.2 percent on an annual basis, the bureau said.

In the meantime, production of pig iron grew by 6.2 percent over the same period last year to reach 102.96 million tons.

The period also saw a year-on-year increase of 11.8 percent in the output of non-ferrous metals, which chalked up 5.40 million tons.

During the January-October period, the output of aluminum oxide hit 3.19 million tons, up 14.6 percent on an annual basis, and that of aluminum products hit 1.37 million tons, surging 13.9 percent.

The production of copper products increased by 9.1 percent over the same period last year to reach 1.03 million tons.
