The Chinese capital Beijing will hold a New Year concert at the Great Hall of the People on the evening of December 31 to greet the new century.

With the theme of welcoming the new millennium and marching into the new century, two major Chinese chorus ensembles, two prestigious symphony orchestras, and dozens of domestic artists and overseas Chinese musicians will perform.

Many famous Western musical numbers and opera pieces will also be staged, as well as modern Chinese musical works featuring the country's opening and reform and the people's confidence in a bright 21st century.

The concert will be jointly sponsored by the Beijing municipal government, the Ministry of Culture, and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
