Pakistan Ready to Deal with Hijacking: FM

Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar Saturday said the government has prepared all contingency plans if the hijacked Indian aircraft headed back to Pakistan.

"I assure that authorities not only those at airport or civil aviation people but those who play part in policy formulation have taken into account all contingencies and are prepared to deal with the situation, if God forbid, the plane heads back to Pakistan," he said in response to a media question.

Sattar disclosed that his Indian counterpart Jaswant Singh had called him Friday night to get information about the hijacked plane.

He said that the Indian minister "appreciated Pakistan's cooperation" after he was informed of the measures Pakistan had adopted to provide humanitarian aids to the hostages.

"He had said that the government of India was grateful for the cooperation extended by the government of Pakistan," Sattar said.

The Indian Airlines Airbus-300 aircraft with 185 people on board was hijacked Friday on its flight from Kathmandu, Nepal, to New Delhi and landed in Pakistan's eastern city Lahore at night.

After staying in Lahore for about three hours and completing refueling, the plane left for Dubai of the United Arab Emirates. It landed again early Saturday in southern Afghan city of Kandahar. (Xinhua)
