Photo Exhibition on 50 Years of New China

A large photo exhibition titled "China: Fifty Years Inside the People's Republic" will be staged beginning from December 22 until January 31, 2000, and all of April and May next year at the National Museum of Chinese History in Beijing and the Shanghai Museum, respectively.

The exhibition shows nearly 120 photos taken since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, and several photos of the 1930-1940 era. The pictures were taken by 28 photographers from the United States, Japan, and China.

With this exhibit, these photographers present the historic moment of the People's Republic of China's founding and the everyday lives of ordinary Chinese families, and all of them reflect their search into Chinese culture and civilization.

The exhibition has already made its debut in New York City and has attracted worldwide attention.

An official from the Ministry of Culture said that during the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, this exhibition will help the whole world understand the miraculous changes that have taken place during the fifty years of the People's Republic. The exhibit will also be presented in Hong Kong.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by the China International Cultural Exchange Center under the Ministry of Culture and the Aperture Foundation of the United States.
