A production line capable of producing one million Freon-free compressors is now under construction in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The production line, which will be the largest of its kind in western China, has a total investment of 200 million yuan (about 24 million US dollars), according provincial government sources. With advanced foreign technology and equipment, the line is expected to achieve 400 million yuan (about 48.1 million dollars) in annual sales, and 65 million yuan (about 7.8 million dollars) in profits, the sources added. China's home appliance industry has been campaigning for an end to the use of Freon which is believed to have a destructive impact on the Earth's ozone layer. The production line is being built in the Xi'an High-Tec Development Zone. (Xinhua) |
