More than 2,000 Macao students are now studying at colleges and universities in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong Province.

Over the past 20 years, Jinan University, the country's first institute of higher education for overseas Chinese students, have trained 3,000 senior professionals for Macao, and there are currently 1,600 Macao-based students at the university.

The Macao graduates are playing important roles in the region's culture, medicine, legal affairs, finance, technology, sciences, and management and commerce.

The Teachers' University of South China in Guangzhou also set up a branch in Macao and opened a variety of four-year and two-year programs 14 years ago, and to date more than 2,000 teachers in Macao, 70 percent of the total, have received advanced teaching and Chinese language training there.

A number of other prestigious universities in the city including Zhongshan Medical University and the Medical Institute of Jinan University have introduced diversified educational programs for Macao students majoring in medical science.
