The city of Xianyang in Shaanxi Province, northwest China, has allocated nearly 15 million yuan ( about 1.8 million USdollars) to repair and renovate the Qian Mausoleum, the joint burial ground of Tang Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian.

About 1.5 million yuan has been used to repair the road leading to the mausoleum and the 32 stone sculptures along the road. An additional 1.3 million yuan was spent to renovate the two palaces near the mausoleum.

And 12 million yuan has been spent on renovating and maintaining the tomb passage of the mausoleum of Yide, the grandson of Wu Zetian.

The number of tourists visiting the mausoleum has increased from thousands a year in the past to 140,000 at present.

Xianyang, 25 kilometers northwest of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi, was the capital of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.).

There are 27 Han (206 B.C.-220) and Tang (618-907) dynasty tombs in northern Xianyang, and many Chinese and overseas tourists visit them every year.
