Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Wednesday with a visiting Bangladeshi Nationalist Party delegation led by General-Secretary Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan. Wei, also member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, said that Sino-Bangladeshi relations have withstood the test of time. The frequent exchange of visits between both senior leaders and statesmen has helped increase mutual understanding and friendship and push the overall development of bilateral relations, he added. The CPC has maintained close ties with various major parties in Bangladesh, which in turn promoted state-to-state ties, said Wei. Both late President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the Nationalist Party, and his wife Begum Khaleda Zia, now the chairman of the party, have made valuable contributions to the growth of friendly ties between the two countries, said Wei, adding he believes that the current visit will further promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries. Bhuiyan promised that the Bangladeshi Nationalist Party will continue to strive for the development of bilateral relations. He congratulated China on the coming return of Macao, and expressed the hope that China will realize reunification at an early date. (Xinhua) |
