The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday accused the US congress of hindering the improvement of the relations between the two countries.

The US obstacles will have an adverse impact on the prospect of the high-level talks to be held between the DPRK and the US, a Foreign Ministry spokesman told the Korean Central News Agency while commenting on fierce discussions in the US Congress over the DPRK issue.

"The abnormal trend has become more and more apparent" in the U.S. congress to hinder the two countries from improving their ties, the spokesman said. Some Republicans insisted on implementing a "hard-line" policy toward the DPRK, he added.

However, the spokesman added that his country will not tolerate any policy which is aimed at disarming and changing the DPRK.

Senior officials from the United States and the DPRK have agreed to continue their talks soon to settle some pending issues after the two meetings they held in Berlin in September and November. (Xinhua)
