South Korean President Kim Dae-jung Wednesday expressed the hope that his country and Chinese Hong Kong will further cooperation to seek common prosperity oriented toward the 21st century.

Kim made the remarks when he met visiting Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Tung Cheehwa, who arrived Tuesday afternoon for an official two-day visit.

During the meeting, Kim pointed out that one third of foreign investments in South Korea are from Hong Kong and they have played an important role in the recovering process of the South Korean economy.

Tung said that both Hong Kong and South Korea, whose economies are recovering after the financial crisis in Asia, should learn from each other and Hong Kong will further cooperate with South Korea in tourism, investment and infrastructure.

Chinese Hong Kong is South Korea's fourth largest trading partner and Seoul enjoyed a trade surplus of 8.7 billion US dollars last year. (Xinhua)
