The Yantai Power Plant in the coastal city of Yantai in Shandong Province is preparing for the introduction of an environment-friendly electricity-generating technology on an experimental basis, to turn itself into a "green" power-generating facility.

The power plant is set to introduce integrated gasified combined circulation (IGCC) technology, which will be widely used in coal-burning thermal power plants in the 21st century.

There are now more than 20 IGCC power plants built or under construction worldwide.

The new technology will lift coal's heat efficiency by 10 percent and the rate of the coal's desulphurization to more than 99 percent, producing much less coal ash, or none at all. (Xinhua)
