The city of Xianyang in northwest China's Shaanxi Province plans to spend 110 million yuan (13.25 million US dollars) to renovate and build 58 kilometers of roads leading to ancient mausoleums in a bid to boost the local tourism industry.

Xianyang, 25 kilometers northwest of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi, was the capital of Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.).

There are 27 Han (206 B.C.-220) and Tang (618-907) dynasty tombs in the northern part of Xianyang and many Chinese and overseas tourists come to visit them every year.

However, inconvenient transportation and bad roads now made it difficult for visitors to reach destinations such as the Qianling Mausoleum at Qianxian, the joint burial ground of Tang Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian, the Maoling Mausoleum at Xingping where Emperor Wu is buried, and the Shunling Mausoleum, the tomb of Wu Zetian's mother.
