China China to Push Forward Army Logistics Reform

The spread of army logistics work to other departments will be further improved, a Chinese general said at the national working conference on army logistics reform on December 7.

General Wang Ke, a member of the Central Military Commission and head of the General Department of Logistics of the People's Liberation Army, said the Chinese army has experimented with redistribution of logistics tasks in 850 units this year, with 7, 600 military logistics forces reduced and over 80 million yuan saved.

All the changes have improved the management and quality of the logistics work, Wang said.

General Wang pointed out that re-assigning logistics responsibilities is an efficient way of modernizing China's army, as well as strengthening its quality.

He stressed that the work should be targeted to social forces by fully utilizing market resources, so as to form a new logistics system that will meet the demands of army quality construction and the socialist market economy.

Wang asked logistics departments to make breakthroughs in catering, barracks, and commercial services within two to three years.

He also asked military departments at all levels to take great pains to ensure the smooth operation of the logistics work.
