Shenzhen Expects 14 Pct GDP Growth This Year

Shenzhen, a south China boomtown bordering Hong Kong, is confident it will achieve a 14 percent growth in gross domestic product this year, the city's mayor Li Zibin said recently.

He said that during the first 10 months this year, Shenzhen registered 111.4 billion yuan (13.4 billion US dollars) in GDP, up 13.9 percent from the same period last year.

The robust growth momentum was brought on by record high investment on fixed assets, which totaled 36.3 billion yuan between January and October, Li added.

Meanwhile, the city's export made a year-on-year growth of 9.6 percent in the first 10 months to 22.9 billion US dollars, and the import jumped by 18.6 percent to 18 billion US dollars.

Foreign investors spent a total 2.34 billion US dollars on Shenzhen during the period, up 8 percent. (Xinhua)
