Cultural Activities Abound in East China

Cultural activities in east China's Fujian Province have experienced a boom period this year.

Fujian has produced rich, vivid and colorful arts programs such as local opera and TV series, said a provincial cultural official. To date, a number of cultural facilities have been built, including a television center and a cultural activity center.

Local art troupes have given numerous open-air performances for the general public, many in enterprises, army barracks, campuses and rural areas.

Meanwhile, writers in Fujian Province have printed published many good novels and literary writings about the celebrities in the province, the official noted.

Meanwhile, public cultural activities have increased in the province, including singing contests, ballets, symphonic concerts and colorful recreational programs which have attracted flocks of urban and rural residents, he said.

To manage the cultural market still better, Fujian has made a considerable effort to crack down on illegal printing and selling of pirated and pornographic publications. So far, more than 20,000 illegal books, tapes, CDs and VCDs have been seized, and 138 illegal bookstores or recreational shops have suspended business. (Xinhua)
