Greater efforts have to be made in taking care of the aging population in China, since the country is not well-prepared for the arrival of the Silver Hair Era.

Doje Cering, minister of Civil Affairs, made the point recently in an exclusive interview with Xinhua, emphasizing the issue is closely connected with social stability, development and progress.

As of this October, China entered what it has termed the aging population era, with 10 percent of its 1.2 billion population above the age of 60, he said.

Of the country's aging population, 67 percent were between 60-70 years old and 10 percent above age of 80, according to the minister, who is also a deputy director of the National Committee for Aging Population, which was set up in October.

Governments at all levels should put the issue on their agenda,
