US telecom giant Motorola recently set up a "Motorola Town" in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, as part of its market expansion effort targeted at western China. Described as the first showcase of the company for its latest concept in telecommunications, the town is designed to introduce Motorola's state-of-the-art telecom technology to Chinese customers at the earliest possible time, according to a senior executive. The town, which covers an area of 300 square meters, will be divided into three parts for sales, exhibition and other purposes respectively, said P. Y. Lai, a vice-president of Motorola and president of the Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd. It is the second project sponsored by Motorola in western China following the establishment of a research center at a cost of 100 million yuan in Chengdu in October. More "Motorola towns" are planned for the cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, Lai said. (Xinhua) |
