Chinese Sun Makes Winning Start in GP Finals

World number one Sun Jun made a winning comeback at the badminton world grand prix finals in Brunei, beating Malaysian Ong Ewe Hock 15-13, 17-14 in a Group A match on the first day of the year-ending tournament.

The 24-year-old Chinese had sustained a back injury after his triumph at last year's world championships. He had not won a major event ever since.

Danish world number two Peter Gade-Christensen dispatched of Indonesia's Budi Santoso 15-9, 15-9 in Group B.

In the women's action, world champion Camilla Martin of Denmark whitewashed Lidya Djaelawidjaya of Indonesia 11-0, 11-0 in less than 15 minutes.

World number one Dai Yun of China made short work of Indonesia' s Cindana Hartono Kusuma 11-7, 11-9. (Xinhua)
