The Ministry of Public Security is to launch a nationwide program next year to solve urban traffic problems. Meng Hongwei, Director of Traffic Control Bureau Attached to the Ministry of Public Security, said at a national traffic police meeting in Shijiazhuang on December 1 that the program will be launched in over 100 Chinese cities.

He said that modern traffic control centers will be built in 36 major cities next year. These centers will be equipped with advanced devices of signal control, information consultation and telecommunications.

Meng said the new system is expected to aid in the timely reports of traffic violations and will help police respond to accidents much more quickly.

In a related effort, the bureau will adopt new regulations on traffic violations.
