More Bodies of Shipwreck Victims Found

Fourteen more bodies of Dashun shipwreck victims were found as of 14:30 on November 29 as recovery operations continued at the accident site near the coast city of Yantai in Shandong Province, east China.

Some 100 divers called from across the country including the navy began their operations Sunday and found four bodies in the icy waters off Yantai.

So far a total of 136 bodies of the victims have been found and brought to shore, according to official sources.

With 262 passengers and 40 crew members on board, the Dashun, owned by the Yantai Yanda Automobile Ferry Company, caught fire on the afternoon of November 24 and was forced to turn back from its course to the port of Dalian in Liaoning Province, northeast China.

The vessel sent out distress signals after flames were discovered at 4:30 p.m. The ship sank at about midnight the same day.

More than 5,000 people have been involved in the rescue effort. Sources confirmed that 22 people have been rescued alive so far.
