Motorola recently introduced into the Chinese market a new-generation mobile phone capable of connecting with the Internet. Using the new device, coded "L2000www", people can get on-line as well as send and receive e-mail. The world's telecommunications sector has worked out a technical standard called the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) to support the connection between the wireless telecommunication network and the Internet. The new mobile phone, based on the WAP, thus becomes another major terminal capable of connecting with the Internet, and will boost the growth of the "wireless Internet," said Chen Jiaxing, vice president of Motorola (China). Sina, one of the major Chinese websites, now is testing equipment for its compatibility with WAP and intends to provide Internet service for mobile phone users, said Yan Yuanchao, chief engineer of Sina.
