China, Australia Tighten Cooperation in Cultural Heritage Conservation

China and Australia will ontinue to increase their cooperation in conservation of cultural heritage, according to an official document inked in Beijing November 26.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Heritage Cooperation between China and Australia was signed by Zhang Wenbin, director-general of China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and Peter King, chairman of the Australian Heritage Commission.

According to the memorandum, the two countries will work together for conservation of cultural heritage on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, respecting different cultures and policies of their respective governments.

The two sides will also conduct joint research, and non- governmental organizations of the two countries will be allowed to participate in the work.

Zhang stressed that it is necessary for China to learn the advanced management expertise, technologies, evaluation methods, and laws and regulations from the Australians in terms of conservation of cultural heritage. (Xinhua)
