China will build its first porcelain museum at a 1,300-year-old imperial kiln site in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.

With a total investment of 10 million yuan, the museum will cover an area of 3.3 ha at the site of the famous Tongguan Kiln dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

The museum, scheduled to open next year, will display rare porcelain items made in many Chinese dynasties. At the same time, visitors can view the historic kiln site, including a large pit dating to the Tang Dynasty from which craftsmen obtained the earth for making porcelain.

The Tongguan Imperial Kiln, a major porcelain producer during the Tang Dynasty, is famous for its development of a colored glaze technique, and its porcelain products were well-known throughout China and Southeast Asia. (Xinhua)
