Jenny Thompson of the United States set a short course swimming world record of 26.00 seconds in the women's 50-meter butterfly Thursday at a FINA World Cup meet in Maryland.

Thompson held the old mark 26.05, on December 2 of last year at Texas A and M University in College Station, Texas.
