Minnesota's Kevin Garnett Named NBA Player of the Week

Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves today was named NBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, November 8, through Sunday, November 14.

Garnett led the Timberwolves to a 2-0 record last week by averaging 25.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.0 blocks. In Minnesota's 93-90 home win over the New York Knicks on November 11, Garnett posted a career-high 35 points, along with 14 rebounds and four assists. Garnett followed that performance with 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots in a 111-100 home victory over Phoenix on Saturday.

Garnett currently ranks second in the NBA with a 29.0 scoring average and second in rebounding at 13.8 rebounds per game. With his performances last week, Garnett extended his double figure scoring streak to 133 consecutive games, a Timberwolves' team record.

Other candidates for NBA Player of the Week were Denver's Nick Van Exel, Chicago's Hersey Hawkins, Miami's Alonzo Mourning, Orlando's Darrell Armstrong, Sacramento's Chris Webber and Seattle 's Gary Payton.
