Motorola to Help Nanning Build an Emergency Network

Motorola will help Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to build a social emergency network.

According to an agreement signed early this week between the American company and Nanning, Motorola will be responsible for designing the network and for providing computers and other telecommunications equipment.

According to local sources, equipment needed in building the network and supporting works is expected to cost 90 million yuan (about 10.8 million US dollars).

There are many emergency telephone services in China, such as dialing 110 to report crimes, 119 for fire disasters, 120 for medical aids and 122 for road accidents. However, many cities in China do not have a unified access to these numbers.

When the emergency network is complete, residents in Nanning can dial 110 if they want any help. The network will also make it easier for local authorities to obtain the latest information about major accidents in the city, said a local official. (Xinhua)
