American Lindsay Davenport reached the final for the third consecutive year at the 520,000 U. S. dollars Advanta Tennis Championships in Pennsylvania on Saturday with an easy semi-final victory over her compatriot Venus Williams. Davenport set a showdown in Sunday's final with world number one-ranked Martina Hingis, who beat French Nathalie Tauziat 6-4, 6- 2 in another semi-finals. World number two Davenport romped Williams 6-1, 6-2 from the service line and benefited from spotty serving by her opponent in just 50 minutes. "That was one of the best matches I've served, probably," said Davenport, who lost in the 1997 Advanta final to Hingis and in 1998 to Steffi Graf. "When you're serving well, you can take chances, because all the pressure is on her to hold her serve." The 23-year-old Davenport will be playing in her seventh final of 1999. She has a 5-1 record in her previous six finals this year, having lost only to Williams in straight sets in New Haven in August in the last meeting between the two. |
