Chinese Law Enforcement Units Urged to Do Better Job

State Councilor Luo Gan has called on local governments to work harder to create the sort of social stability needed for the reform and development of the country's state-owned enterprises.

During his five-day inspection tour of Fujian Province, east China, that concluded today, State Councilor Luo Gan said political and law enforcement departments of governments at all levels should do more to maintain the social environment.

They should guarantee the sort of law and order necessary for the reform and development of the state-owned enterprises, he said.

Luo, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for continuous crackdown on all kinds of economic crimes according to law, including smuggling, manufacturing and sales of shoddy goods, and all forms of bribery.

He also urged local governments to do more for those laid off by the state-owned enterprises, including providing more job training and employment opportunities.
