Economic advisors to south China's booming Guangdong Province from around the world have gathered in Guangdong to attend a conference advising the provincial government on economic development on November 13. The province has invited 20 renowned experts in the areas of education, technology and economy as economic advisors, including Joseph Stiglitz, chief economist of the World Bank, Colin Lucas, president of the Oxford University, and Richard McGinn, chairman of the board of Lucent Technologies. The theme of the conference is "world technological development trends and industrial restructuring of Guangdong province," and four special group meetings will be held on electronic information, financial investment, science, technology and education, and upgrading the industrial structure of the province. As the first Chinese province to reform and open up, Guangdong does 40 percent of China's foreign trade turnover, which reached 130 billion US dollars last year. Guandong is also a leader in foreign capital influx, which now exceeds 100 billion US dollars. |
