Exhibition Tells Macao's Present and History

An eight-day exhibition featuring Macao's present and history was unveiled at the Landmark Conference and Exhibition Center in Macao on November 11.

The exhibition, the biggest of its kind ever held in Macao, covers eight categories: ancient civilization in Macao, trading activities in Macao in the 16th and 17th centuries, Portugal's gradual occupation of Macao, the blending of Chinese and Western cultures, Sun Yat-sen in Macao, folk customs in Macao, modern society and economy of Macao, and the retrospect and prospect about Macao.

On display are more than 270 pictures, some 40 pieces of historical archives, 90 items of historical relics, and Chinese and Portuguese clothing and relevant adornments.

It shows that Macao has been part of China since ancient times, that Macao has a special role in blending Chinese and Western cultures, that China and Portugal have good prospect of cooperation, and that Macao residents have firm confidence in their future.

The exhibition was organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and Information Office of the State Council, and the Xinhua News Agency Macao Branch.
