The Bank of China today donated a set of first issued Macao notes (Pataca) to the Chinese Revolutionary Museum which will become part of its permanent collection. The Macao pataca comes in 1,000-dollar, 500-dollar, 100-dollar, 50-dollar and 10-dollar denominations. The notes carry representative buildings and scenery of Macao and the lotus, the special administrative regional flower. The Bank of China first issued the Macao banknote in Macao in October 1995 to mark the new era in the region. The banknote issued by the Bank of China hold half the currency circulation in Macao and has contributed to the region's economic and financial stability. Hua Qingshan, deputy director of the Bank of China said at the donation ceremony, "The donation expresses the Bank of China's joy for the return of Macao to the motherland and shows its confidence in the region's stability and prosperity." The set of Macao banknotes will be exhibited in the Museum to celebrate the return of Macao. |
