The Executive Council of the future Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held its second meeting on November 10 to discuss two administrative statutes and the drafts of two laws. The administrative statutes are respectively related to fixing the dates of public holidays from December 20 to 31 this year, and the dates of public holidays in the year 2000. One draft of law is about the way to issue administrative regulations and the other is about the inauguration of the Macao SAR officials at the time when the Macao SAR is set up on December 20. After being discussed among the Executive Council members, the statutes will be approved and promulgated by the chief executive of the Macao SAR, and the two drafts of law will be passed on to the Legislative Council of the SAR for examination. At the end of September, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive- designate of the Macao SAR, announced the appointment of 10 members of the Executive Council, which is an organ for assisting the chief executive in policy-making. Five of the 10 members are the heads of leading departments of the Macao SAR government, three are SAR legislators and two are social celebrities. It has been decided that the Executive Council will meet every Wednesday. |
