Scientists: EPR Used For Clues To Cancer, Aging

Chinese and foreign scientists have discovered that Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) technology can be used to determine the causes of cancer and aging.

This was revealed at the second Asia-Pacific EPR symposium which closed recently in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.

The use of EPR technology will help researchers to further study molecular structure.

EPR has been proved helpful in the detection of free radicals in the human body which are closely related to some diseases such as cancer, as well as arthritis and aging.

Scientists are experimenting with uses of EPR in biomedicine, and in other areas like the analysis of nuclear fallout, geological surveys and food preservation.

In 1944, Russia's scientists discovered the EPR phenomenon, which has since been widely used in chemical and biological areas. (Xinhua)
