China's central authorities have urged the Chinese people to improve their ethical standards and stand tall when facing the challenges brought on by modern-day life.

In the latest suggestion on strengthening ideological and ethical work, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee ordered all its local branches to carry out the suggestion in accordance with their different conditions.

Enterprises are urged to deepen the inside reform so as to enhance their management efficiency. Rural areas should carry out various kinds of legal and scientific education. College and school students must combine learning with social practice. Urban communities should help shape friendly relationships among neighbors, the suggestion said.

It particularly stressed that the problems of retirees, laid- off workers and migrant workers from rural areas be solved.

The CPC plans to take an extremely important role in enhancing the people's ethical level during the socialist reform and opening- up process.

The central authorities will publicly recognize a group of outstanding model workers and professionals in society and greatly enrich the cultural life of the people.

All CPC members are urged to remain clear-headed so as to solve new problems in today's society which is filled with diverse lifestyles, different social systems and various types of employment, the suggestion said.

The CPC vows to adhere to Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory, as well as to stick to the basic line and principles of the Party.

The Party will continue to educate its members and the entire public on the correct outlook on the world, life and values.

In promoting ethical education, the CPC underscores economic construction as one of its most important tasks. Improving people' s ideological outlook also serves the major goal of economic development, the suggestion said.

Meanwhile, the suggestion ordered that all levels of society be united in fulfilling the ethical improvement work.

The CPC will also focus on perfecting related laws or regulations in the field.

Solving ideological problems must be combined with settling practical issues, the suggestion said.

The Party will unswervingly popularize scientific knowledge among the people, safeguard social stability and form a good moral norm in society. Under the principle of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts, the Party should find new ways to resolve new problems.

Mass media in the country are also called on to encourage healthy ideological trends.

Mass cultural organizations, museums and stadiums should become centers for people's leisure entertainment, the suggestion said.
