Volcano Monitoring System Set up in Northeast China

A network designed to monitor volcanic activities at northeast China's Changbai Mountains is now in operation.

The completion of the network marks a new stage in China's volcano research, and the data collected by the network will provide important materials for pre-warning of volcanic eruptions.

As part of a key state project sponsored by the State Seismological Administration and approved by the State Council, the network is the largest comprehensive volcano surveillance base in China.

There are nearly 30 volcano groups and some 1,000 volcanoes in China, mainly located in the north and northeast, the western part of Yunnan Province, central Fujian Province, Leizhou Straits, northern Taiwan and central Fujian. Experts have warned volcanoes at Changbai Mountains are the most potentially dangerous ones in the world.
