Greater attention should be given to the mass media in focusing on corruption, a senior CPC official said on November 5.

Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Discipline Inspection Commission, said that the media's role in reporting corruption in China is just like the Chinese people keeping a vigilant eye on corruption.

Some government officials are afraid that their corruption activities will be exposed by the media and do everything in their power to obstruct their work, Wei told Central China TV Station. " This clearly indicates the important and necessary role of the media."

Wei urged discipline inspections and procuratorate organs at various levels to fully support and coordinate with the media. " Those who seriously obstruct the media will be severely punished," he noted. (Xinhua)
