Kenyan Vice-President Meets Chinese Guests

Kenyan Vice-President George Saitoti met here Friday with a delegation of China Disabled Persons' Federation led by its Chairman Deng Pufang.

At the meeting, Saitoti conveyed the greetings from President Daniel arap Moi to the delegation members. He said his government had given much attention and support to the cause of the disabled in the country.

The vice-president said his government, together with non-governmental organizations, had launched many projects for the disabled, such as occupational training, and setting up a special fund and enterprises for the disabled.

Kenya and China have enjoyed a very close and warm relationship, Saitoti said, adding that he wished such relationship would be further strengthened and deepened.

Deng gave a brief introduction to the Kenyan hosts of the development of disabled persons' undertakings in China.

He said that the Chinese government had made great efforts to guarantee the rights and interests of the disabled, and worked out plans for their rehabilitation, education and employment.

The cause of the disabled in China is a component part of the country's current reform and opening-up drive, Deng said.

He believed that his visit to Kenya would promote friendship and cooperation between the disabled people of the two countries.

The Chinese delegation arrived here Thursday. During its six-day stay in Kenya, the delegation will visit other places including a special college for the disabled and a workshop turning out products for the disabled people.
