Palestinian Opposition Raps Oslo Summit Results

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), one of the Syria-based Palestinian opposition groups, has rejected the results of the just concluded Oslo summit.

Terming the results as harmful to the Palestinian national dialogs, a press statement released Thursday by the DFLP said the November 1-2 summit in Oslo, Norway, was within the context of the biased Israeli-US notion to uphold the Oslo process and accords.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin signed the Declaration of Principle in 1993, which grants limited autonomy to the Palestinians and was regarded by the opposition as a compromise to the Palestinian rights.

The statement added that the Israeli government led by Ehud Barak was seeking a lasting solution through a Camp Oslo by February 2000, apparently analogizing it to the US-manipulated Camp David, rather than adhering to international legitimate resolutions.

The statement warned that the Israeli stance would lead negotiations to drag on and on for 20 years or more; by then the Palestinian territories would have been digested by Israeli settlements and Judaization.

According to the latest Palestinian-Israeli peace deal in September, the outlines for a permanent peace agreement will be worked out by February next year.

At the tripartite meeting in Oslo, Arafat and Barak have promised US President Bill Clinton to work hard to draw up outlines by the deadline.

The statement called on Arafat's Palestinian National Authority to stand fast against pressure from Israel and the US, and to reject the attempts to impose an agreement beyond the framework of international legitimate resolutions.

It also called for resumption of national dialog on the basis of national unity of all Palestinian forces under the banner of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
