Overseas Universities Favor China's Higher Education Market

Gary G. Williams, Dean of McLaren School of Business at the University of San Francisco said that China is the largest potential market for their "Global Education Management".

He made the remarks at McLaren's annual advisory board meeting. He said Mclaren will expand its training and consulting relations with China.

The Dean said McLaren currently runs two off-campus MBA distance learning programs with China Resources and Guangdong Enterprises. To date, almost 150 students have earned their MBA degree through distance learning programs.

The Business Management Program for Shanghai executives has successfully run five terms since 1984. The University of San Francisco is member of the 26 US University consortium with Peking University offering BiMBA since 1998.

More and more overseas universities have become interested in Chinese higher education. Wang Guangchang, an official with the Academic Degrees Committee of China's State Council, said that since June, 30 cooperative programs were authorized to run cooperative programs and grant overseas or Hong Kong degrees. " China greatly needs professionally-trained managers. Some Chinese universities and companies are now seeking overseas partners to offer MBA programs".

Some short-term non-degree programs are held by overseas universities and universities and companies in China, Wang added. (Xinhua)
