Earthquake Jolts Taiwan

An earthquake jolted Taiwan Province early morning of November 2, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor, with a magnitude of about 6.5, was centered about 45 miles north-northeast of Taitung, or 120 miles south of Taipei.

The quake, which hit at 1:53 a.m. Beijing time, was strong enough to wake people and knock objects off shelves in Taipei.
