China has a goal of revitalizing its manufacturing sector by relying on new technology between the years 2001 and 2005. Xu Guanhua, vice-minister of science and technology, made the announcement at the Shanghai Science and Technology Festival in Shanghai recently. Xu said that digital technology, precision manufacturing, and environmentally-friendly technology will be given priority and will be used in the manufacturing sector. Information technology and advanced management expertise will be applied as well to transform traditional industries and increase inventions, Xu said. The Chinese government is now considering a series of preferential policies to encourage the development and application of advanced manufacturing technology. (Xinhua) |
