Government to Take Over SOE Schools in Nanchang

Thirty-four high schools and primary schools attached to the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province, will soon be separated from the enterprises and run by the government.

This is part of the national effort to alleviate the economic burdens on SOEs and push forward reform of the enterprises, authorities note.

The Nanchang city government will add 20 million yuan in support of school operations annually after they are detached from the enterprises. These schools have a combined faculty of 1,691 and 2,466 students.

The schools will be managed by educational departments beginning January next year, and specific hand-over procedures will be completed by the end of November, according to one local source. (Xinhua)
