Chinese Leaders Meets With Le Kha Phieu
Chinese leaders met with Le Kha Phieu, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, at separate meetings on February 26 in Beijing.
Le and his party arrived here on Thursday on a 6-day official and good-will visit to China.
Li Peng, standing member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee In a meeting on February 26 with LeKha Phieu expressed his admiration of the Vietnamese Communist Party for achieving such great success in their reform and opening as well as in their socialist construction. Li Peng recognised that Vietnam has stabilised and developed its economy even during the financial crises that have struck Asia.
Li Peng said the Chinese NPC has shared long and friendly relations with the Vietnamese legislature. He believes their exchange of experience in different fields has contributed a lot to the establishment and perfection of the democratic and legal systems of the two countries. He hopes these exchanges will be broadened and deepened in the days to come.
Le Kha Phieu said that Vietnam and China have long since shared friendly relations; he called this a common treasure of the two countries. He hopes the two shall strive together in the long run to promote their cooperative relations in all aspects.
Li Peng also introduced some preparatory work for the second session of the 9th NPC. He said that the Constitution will be amended in this session. Representatives to the NPC will consider writing Deng Xiaoping Theory into the Constitution. They will also consider acts to improve the legal system.
Hu Jintao Meets in his meeting with Le Kha Phieu said that the further growth of friendly relations between the Chinese and Vietnam parties will not only help them to learn from each other to promote their self-building and socialist development of the two countries, but will also help push forward bilateral relations to a new high.
This is in the long-term interests of the two countries and peoples, and conforms to the common wish of the two sides, he stressed.
He said that the Chinese communist party is fully prepared to advance the relations with its Vietnamese counterpart on the basis of independence, equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
Phieu agreed with Hu, saying that the two parties adhere to the path of socialism and keep the road which promotes their respective national characteristics.
However, there is a long way to go to genuinely realize socialism, he said, adding that it is imperative for the two parties to sum up experiences and learn from each other while combining theory with practice.
Phieu said that the Vietnamese communist party hopes to increase cooperation in various fields with the Chinese Communist Party, especially in exchanging views on how to better administer the country.
The two countries should increase exchanges between youngsters to work for the further growth of relations in the years to come, he added.
Li Ruihuan , chairman of the 9Th CPPCC National Committee and also a standing member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Li Lanqing, a standing member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, held separate talks with Le today in Beijing.
