Protecting State Law With Iron Will
ĦĦĦĦIn Shenzhen City, the forward position of reform and opening up, Hou Liming, a national eminent procuratorial officer and chief procurator of the Nanshan District Procuratorate, has become known for his skilful attack on "big tigers"-highly positioned criminals. Between 1993 and 1998, the Nanshan District Procuratorate under his leadership had placed 195 criminal cases related to the practice of corruption and bribery involving 216 people on file for investigation, retrieving economic losses of nearly 1 billion yuan for the state and collective.
ĦĦĦĦHou Liming often says: "It's better to handle a major case through hot pursuit and fierce attack that would inspire the masses, than handle a minor perfunctory case"; "it doesn't matter much to me whether or not my post as a small official can be kept, but I must go on investigating into the case"; "we have one thousand reasons to ask for money from the financial department, but we have no reason at all to ask for a single cent of financial aid from the enterprise involved in the case"; and "if anyone who handles cases in an uncivilized way and thus breaks the brass plate of the procuratorate, I'll have his or her rice-bowl smashed". Hou has won praises from the masses with his own deeds.
