Pentagon: US Jets Hit Air Defenses In Northern Iraq
US F-15E warplanes dropped bombs on a military command and control site in the northern Iraq no-fly zone Tuesday after they were targeted by anti-aircraft fire, the Pentagon said.
In a separate incident in the zone, other F-15s attacked a multiple-launch rocket system near the city of Mosul with bombs after they were fired on by Iraqi anti-aircraft guns, a Defense Department spokesman said.
It was the third consecutive day of attacks by US and British jets in response to what the Pentagon called violations by Iraq of the no fly zones.
