China FM Spokesman on Iraqi Issue

  China called on the parties concerned to adopt a flexible and constructive attitude to achieve positive progress at an early date in the evaluation of the arms inspection work in Iraq , according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue.

  Zhang made the remarks in Beijing when asked to comment on the UN Security Council's experts panel for disarmament in Iraq, which is expected to start its evaluation work on February 23.

  "China attaches importance to the panel's upcoming assessment on the weapon inspection in Iraq and other issues, which marks a significant step to solve the Iraqi issue politically. China hopes that the panel would give a just and objective assessment of the related issues on the basis of relevant UN resolutions. China is willing to make efforts together with the other parties in this regard" said the spokeswoman
