Pak-China Ties, Outstanding Precedent of Friendship

Pakistan's President Rafiq Tarar said in Islambad Monday that the Pak-China relations have become a precedent of lasting friendship for the rest of the world.

During a meeting at the Presidential House with General Chi Haotian, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, Tarar said the two countries have stood by each other in times of trial.

The Pak-China friendship, he said, is stronger than mountains and deeper than oceans.

The two countries, the president said, have a complete consensus on regional and international issues. The Pak-China friendship is also vital for regional and world peace, he added.

The president stressed that to develop the friendly and cooperative relations with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy.

Tarar assured General Chi, who is state councilor and minister of national defense, of Pakistan's support on the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and human rights.

He expressed the hope that the two countries would work for regional prosperity in all fields.

Reciprocating the president's sentiments, General Chi said China and Pakistan have stepped up their cooperation in various fields. China and Pakistan would continue to work for peace in Asia, Chi added.

General Chi expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by Pakistan for maintaining peace and stability in South Asia.

The Chinese government and its army will continue to work for the establishment of the all-round cooperative partnership toward the 21st century, he said.

General Chi and his entourage visited the Corps Headquarters in Islamabad's sister city of Rawalpindi on Monday morning.

The Chinese visitors left Islamabad for the southern port city of Karachi Monday afternoon by a special aircraft provided by the Pakistani government. They are scheduled to leave Karachi for London Tuesday afternoon.
