Jiang Zemin Attends Chinese Poetry Recital
Chinese President Jiang Zemin attended a recital of Chinese ancient poetry on February 20 in Beijing together with 1,000 audiences. Recited were a dozen Chinese ancient poems that were composed by well-known poets in Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, with music background.
Prior to the performance, Jiang met the reciters and pointed out that China has a large number of fine works in ancient poems that contain in-depth connotation and philosophy. To learn some ancient poems helps improve people's cultivation and increase their sense of national self-esteem and pride, he noted.
The performance was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.
