Chinese Folk Music Causes Sensation in Vienna

The Chinese Central Nationalities Music Orchestra gave a performance in the Golden Hall in Vienna, Austria on February 16 -- the Spring Festival of the Chinese year of the rabbit. This is the second time the Chinese orchestra has played in the Golden Hall.

The performance had raised a sensation among the Austrian audience. Over 2000 listeners gave a protracted applause to the performance. The last Spring Festival performance was also well received by the Austrian audience.

A number of Austrian state leaders attended the performance.

Before the orchestra went to Austria, Chinese President Jiang Tzemin sent a letter to the orchestra to encourage its performance in Austria.

In Washington, the Chinese Youths Peking Opera Troupe was warmly welcomed for its 'Huamulan' performance, a traditional Chinese legend about a heroine in the guise of a man to fight the invaders.
