Macao Celebrates Chinese New Year

The Macao Chamber of Commerce held a party on February 16 to celebrate the first day of the Chinese New Year.

Ma Man Kei, president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, called on Macao residents to make unremitting efforts in the new year so as to boost Macao's economic growth and safeguard good social order.

"Macao is returning to the motherland, and the history of Macao will open to a new chapter," he said, expressing the belief that " Macao residents will surely undertake the mission and make concerted efforts to create a promising future."

He also noted that China scored new achievements over the past year in the course of reform, opening-up and modernization drive despite the impact of the Asian financial crisis and severe floods. China's economy continued a rapid growth and the people's living standards kept improving.
